This 716-litre capacity is achieved with the third row of seats folded down — the configuration most rental providers use to maximise storage space.
The large boot makes everyday travel easier. Loading and unloading luggage is quick and straightforward via the tailgate, with no need to climb onto a loading bed.
And best of all: everything stays clean and protected from dust. Unlike the Hilux, where the loading bed and canopy don't offer complete dust protection.

Cool box & spare tyre available to add
For longer trips, the Toyota Fortuner can be optionally equipped with a cool box and two spare tyres through selected providers. In Namibia, it's usually offered as a diesel, since most rental cars in the country run on diesel. It's commonly fitted with a 2.4 GD-6 diesel engine, and depending on the provider, extra features like Wi-Fi or a tyre pressure gauge may also be included.
The cool box keeps drinks, snacks, and food fresh — especially handy on long stretches between lodges, where you won't always come across a supermarket or petrol station. A cold drink after a dusty gravel road is simply hard to beat. It also helps that Toyota has a reputation for reliability, backed by a strong network of spare parts across Namibia.
Two spare tyres add extra peace of mind on remote roads, where the nearest workshop can be far away. Namibia's gravel roads are generally well maintained, but a flat tyre can never be fully ruled out. This setup also helps if you break down in a remote area, and having two spares on board means you can drive with far more confidence. For these kinds of distances, the 130-litre tank is practical too, offering plenty of fuel reserve on long stretches.

When booking a Toyota Fortuner in Namibia, insurance options vary depending on the provider. Most rental companies offer standard insurance with an excess — meaning that in the event of damage, a fixed amount is covered by the renter. The standard excess for an accident is usually N$40,000.00, roughly €2,000.00. However, damage caused by negligence is often excluded. Many offers already include unlimited kilometres in the rental price. A credit card is generally required for the deposit, and the minimum age for renters can vary by provider.
For extra peace of mind, some providers offer a premium insurance option, similar to fully comprehensive cover, which eliminates the excess entirely.
As for permitted countries, this also depends on the provider. Whether additional countries like Botswana, Zimbabwe, or South Africa are allowed varies by rental company. Cross-border travel with the Fortuner is generally possible, depending on the provider and any required permits, though the driver must follow the specific provider's conditions.
